Welcome to the Shenandoah Valley's only half marathon!
The Battlefield Half Marathon is the first of its kind in the
Shenandoah to embrace the historic town of Winchester,
Virginia and the beautiful country roads of Fredrick County.
Not only is this Half Marathon special because of its
location, it is special in its purpose! All proceeds from the
race will go to the Winchester Rescue Mission Homeless
Shelter and the Kernstown Battlefield Association!
Let’s not forget, there is also a 5k Family Fun Run and Walk.
The 5k will be a Cross Country Course right on the
March 23, 1862, Stonewall Jackson's 3,000-strong Confederate army marched into the artillery fire of Nathan
Kimball's 8,000-strong Union force. When darkness ended the battle, casualties totaled over 1300. Kernstown was
the first battle fought in the Valley, and it launched the great campaign still studied today, Gen. Jackson's famous
Valley Campaign of 1862.
